Vaughncile (Williams) Purdy

Vaughncile Williams Purdy was born Nov. 19,1933 to Victor Olen Williams & Edna Stottlemyre

Williams. They lived on a farm East & North of Laredo, Mo. Went to bible school at Laredo Baptist

Church & was saved at 9 years old. I was baptized in the river running by Laredo.

Moved to Trenton during my 8th grade & Mom got a job as nurse & Dad worked at the milk

plant. I finished school there. I had 2 brothers Olen Laverne Williams & Lowell Dean Williams.

Olen was killed in a car wreck when he was 20. Dean was my brother & best friend the rest of

my life.

Had 2 boys James Leroy Marrs in 1951 & Kerry Williams Marrs born in 1953. Moved to KC for

About 5 years & moved back to Trenton where I worked at Muffs bakery for 3 ½ years. Boys and

I moved back to KC went to computer school & attended JOCO. Worked several jobs for a few

years. Went to work for Merck, Sharp & Dahme in Jan. 1962. Later was just called Merck & Co.

Worked for 31 ½ years got a buyout & retired in June of 1993.

Was married to Sam Purdy July 25, 1985. Lived in Overland Park, KS most of my life & moved to

the Palisades in Jan 2011. Best move we ever made. Wonderful neighbors & turned into family.

Preceded in death by my son Kerry Marrs. Hardest thing in my life. By 2 Grandchildren John Marrs & Traci Benton & one Great Grandson, Chase Marrs. Lost my husband 11/12/23.

After retirement, we traveled a lot & took lot of cruises. Alaska, Hawaii 4 times, Tahiti, Mexico &

went to S. Texas several winter after retiring with our trailer. Survived by son Jimmy (Cathy) Marrs, daughter in law Patti Marrs. 4 Grandchildren Shawnna Marrs, Mathew Marrs (Gabby), Ryan Marrs (Lele) & Chad Marrs (Megan). 2 step daughter Kim Purdy, Tammy Kirby & husband Mike & Grandchildren Taylor & Marina Kirby Great Grandchildren Justyn Marrs, Michael Benton, CiCi Benton, Kresten Benton, Zac Marrs, Lilly Marrs, Maddy Marrs, Grady Marrs, Coley Marrs, Gracie Marrs, Cordy Marrs, Ariella Marrs, Emma Marrs, Megan Marrs & husband Bailey, Jacob Marrs, Caeden Marrs & Warren Marrs. 2 Great, Great Grandkids, Oliver Tyndall & Wilder Marrs,

Justyn our great grandson moved in & took care of us the last several years. We were forever

grateful.

For years met every Thursday to knit caps for the Christmas Bureau. Got greeters every Sunday

at church for both doors and was the welcome person for all new people moving into the

Palisades. Traveled by bus with Lenexa senior citizens."

Vaughncile wrote this several years ago and since it was written there is another great-great

grandson, Walker Marrs. Other family members not listed Dean's wife Lynne and Olen's widow

Barbara.

This may not be a typical obituary but when I found the papers I thought what is more

important format or a person's recounting of memories. Memories won.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. at Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton, Missouri. Burial of cremains will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Trenton, Missouri.

Family visitation will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 11:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the mortuary.
