Sarah Isabelle (McGuire) Elder

Sarah Elder, a 100 year old Trenton resident, passed away at 2:55 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Slater Neal Funeral Home of Trenton.  Burial will follow in Rural Dale Cemetery.  Memorial donations are suggested to Rural Dale Cemetery and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Sarah Isabelle Elder was born March 23, 1924 in Trenton to John Harvey and Harriett Eleanor (Haynor) McGuire.  She graduated Trenton High School with the class of 1943. On July 5, 1946, she was married to Herman L. Dunkin Jr. They had three children. John Leslie, Janice Lee, Jeri Lynn.  August 15, 1966 she was married to Alvin “Bud” Elder in Trenton.  Sarah and Bud then moved to Brimson where they lived until Sarah moved back into Trenton in 2012.  Bud preceded her in death on April 22, 1998.  Sarah worked at Schlarb Dry Cleaners for many years.  She was a member of the American Baptist Church in Davenport, IA, and attended the Brimson Baptist Church until its closing.

Surviving relatives include son, John Dunkin and wife Connie of Cedar Rapids, IA. A daughter, Jeri Roberts and husband Wesley of Trenton, a stepdaughter, Sue Stockton of Las Vegas, NV.  Seven grandchildren: Dawn, Daniel, Robyn, Melissa, Tara, Clifford, and Leslie Ann. One step grandchild, Darrin. 

She has many great grandchildren, step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Those preceding her in death include her parents, husband Bud, daughter Janice Bain, son-in-law Billie Bain, stepdaughter Billie Read and stepson - law, Robert Read. Her brothers; John, Samuel, Homer, George and Franklin McGuire, and sisters; Martha Hayes, Nellie Hayes, Ruth Veatch, Abby Broyles, Frances McGuire, Judy Billingsley and Mildred McGuire.
