Peggy Belle Wales Tharp, our beloved mom, Grandma, Mimi, backup mom, and great-grandma passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2026. Peggy was born on March 25th, 1929 to Kermit and Lillian McCartney Wales in Trenton, MO. Peggy grew up in Trenton, and met the love of her life, Billy Jean Tharp. They were married on December 25th, 1948, and had three daughters, Cheri (Bruce) Baker, Toni Kelly, and Roxi Powell. Billy and Peggy owned and operated Tharp Sales and Service in Trenton.
Peggy was an avid reader and loved animals. If you ever drove by her house, you'd see her in the picture window or gazebo with her nose in a book and her dog curled up at her side. She was a great cook, seamstress, and artist and stayed current on world events. Peggy enjoyed water skiing, swimming, and sailing in the Gulf with Billy. To her, her greatest accomplishment was her family, and she maintained great relationships with each of her grandchildren. She was truly the calm matriarch of the family.
She is survived by her daughters, grandkids Corey Owens, Amy Owens, Clint (Erika) Stiles, Blake (Ashley) Stiles, and Mackenzie (Alex) Sutterer, great-grandkids Halee Walker, Sam Stiles, Landon Oliphant, Brogan Owens, Wesley Stiles, Wyatt Stiles, Kaison Oliphant, Preston Sutterer, and Remi Sutterer, several nephews, and a niece.
Open visitation will be at Resthaven on Friday May 8th from 8am-12pm. A private family burial will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church, Jewett Norris Library, or Green Hills Animal Shelter in Trenton, MO.
