Mary Chambers Obituary

Mary Louise (Carpenter) Chambers, a 94-year-old resident of Columbia, MO and former resident of Trenton, MO, was received in the arms of Jesus, August 26, 2025 at Solstice Senior Living facility in Columbia. Her family were all able to say goodbye before she passed peacefully. She was born on March 10, 1931 in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Louise (Hapes) Carpenter. She married Eugene Chambers on August 14, 1949 in Trenton, MO at Grundy Center United Methodist Church. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before his death in 2013. To this union was born a son, Jerry Eugene (Diana) Chambers of Trenton MO and a daughter Cathy Ann (Larry) Hatfield of Columbia MO. Eugene was the love of her life and best friend. She spent her life making a comfortable home for him. She worked for MFA Oil for a couple of years as a book keeper before going on the road with Eugene. They drove for about 10 years at several different moving companies, traveling the United States together. Eugene drove and Mary handled all the paperwork and read the Atlas. Mary enjoyed working in the yard and her flower beds with Eugene before he died. She took great pride in having the neatest and prettiest yard in the neighborhood. She enjoyed cooking, especially baking. She was an avid puzzle book solver. Her favorite ones were Number Fill-Ins. She enjoyed sending cards to family and friends for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. She would buy a roll of stamps so she always had them on hand to use. Her profound faith in God never wavered.

She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eugene and her would take vacations with the grandsons when they were younger. She was proud of all of their accomplishments.

Mary is survived by her daughter Cathy, son-in-law Larry Hatfield and a daughter-in-law Diana Chambers, 5 grandsons, Jason (Andrea) Hatfield of Kingdom City MO, John Hatfield of Columbia MO , Jared (Missy) Hatfield of Centralia MO, Jeremy (Robin) Chambers of Trenton MO and Matthew (Ashley) Chambers also of Trenton MO, 13 great-grandchildren, Austin (Taylor) Hatfield of Prairie Home MO, Madi (Daniel) Talbert of Springfield MO, Kylie (Ryan) Roberts of Columbia MO, Peyton Chambers, Gavin Chambers, Cora Hatfield, Olivia Hatfield, Bentley Chambers, Paige Chambers, Laurel Hatfield, Coehn Chambers, William Hatfield and Loren Hatfield, several nieces and nephews, two brothers, Charles Carpenter of Napa CA and Glenn Carpenter of Siloam Springs AR.
