Joe Callihan, an 86 year old Trenton resident, passed away at 12:45 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Burial will follow in Humphreys Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled from 1:00 until service time Thursday. Memorial donations are suggested to the Humphreys Cemetery and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Joseph Martin Callihan was born January 15, 1937 to Merle Herman and Amber Luellen (Montgomery) Callihan at their farm house north of Humphreys. He graduated from Milan High School and enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. On November 9, 1997, he was united in marriage to Betty Rose Rosenstangle in Humphreys. He worked as a government egg grader for over 25 years, retiring in 1995. Joe was well known for building hay rings for his local farming friends. He enjoyed leather working and piddling around the farm. He was always tinkering and fixing things.
Surviving relatives include his wife Betty of Trenton, daughters Laura Callihan of Trenton, Mona Loyd and husband Larry of Laredo, a son Darrell Callihan of Mesa, AZ, a sister Amber June Wilson of Chattanooga, TN, grandchildren; Alaysha Pool and husband Darby, Harleyn Smith and partner Stephanie, Kaleb Shiflett and wife Lydia, Kari Plessinger and husband Jeff, Craig Loyd. Great grandchildren; Ella, Sarah and Fenix Pool, Alissa Dalton, Haleyn and Ava-Lyn Smith, Hannah, Katherine, and Ellenor Shiflett, Lane and Logan Jobe, Cheyenne Plessinger. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William Leroy Callihan.
