James “Dude” Shull, a 90 year old Trenton resident, passed away at 9:21 a.m., Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, Missouri. He is to be cremated under the direction of Slater Neal Funeral Home. Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens North of Trenton, Missouri. Family will have a gathering with a meal open to all friends at the First Christian Church Activity Center also Saturday November 16, 2024 staring at 11:00 A.M. Memorial donations are suggested to the Green Hills Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
James Leroy Shull was born February 25, 1934 in Trenton, MO to Roy and Vivian (Steele) Shull. On October 12, 1954 he was united in marriage to Ernestine Swank at 10th St. Baptist Church in Trenton. He served in the United States Air Force from October 22, 1952 until November 28, 1961 where he learned to be a meteorologist. James and Ernestine then lived in Denver where he took correspondence classes to be an electrician. They then moved to Redondo Beach, CA where he worked for Continental Airlines in Los Angeles for 10 years. James also worked as an electrician, working for Modine Manufacturing for 20 years in Trenton, MO. He could be considered a professional crappie fisherman and known for giving everyone grey jigs.
Surviving relatives include his wife Ernestine of the home, son James J. Shull of Trenton, daughters Brenda Walling and husband John of Cisco, TX, Janice Merriman and husband Phil of Stockton, MO, and Cindy Kahl and husband Woody of Tulsa, OK, a sister Linda Moore of Princeton, MO, eight grandchildren Melanie Lehman of Smithville, MO, Ben Walling, Josh Walling and wife Melissa, of Corsicana, TX, Rachel Bertsch and husband Ted, of Milwaukee, WI, Scotty Shull and wife Kelli, Heather Epperson, of Trenton, Missouri,Teri Flores and husband Nick, Alex Kahl, of Tulsa, OK, and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Josephene Kirk, brothers Jack and Jerry Shull, and a grandson Cristopher Rand Shull
