James Maloney, an 88-year-old Trenton resident, passed away Friday, May 8th, 2026, at NorthCare Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. James, better known by “Jim”, was born on January 24, 1938, in rural Laredo, Missouri to Truman and Mary (Fullerton) Maloney. Born the seventh of nine children to a Depression-era farming family, Jim knew the value and importance of hard work and sacrifice. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1955, and in 1959 he began a 21-year career as a locomotive engineer on the Rock Island Railroad, which lasted until it’s shutdown in 1980. Along the way, Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1963.
On June 7th, 1971, Jim was married to Rosslyn (Wise) Maloney, a union that lasted just shy of 55 years. After his railroad career, Jim managed the Laredo facility of the Trenton Trust Bank, retiring in 1998 to enjoy spending summers in Colorado and winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Rosslyn, son Rob (Bridet) Maloney, stepson Del (Taci) Johnson, a sister, Helen Frisbie, grandchildren Ross Maloney, Emmaleigh Maloney, Cole Johnson and Monica Johnson, along with several niece, nephews and close family friends who were just like family to Jim.
He is to be cremated under the direction of Slater Neal Funeral Home with no services scheduled.
