Dixon "Dick" Lanning Obituary

Mr. Dixon “Dick” Lee Lanning 89, a resident of Trenton, Missouri died at 8:29 A.M., Saturday October 10, 2020 at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Shelburne Baptist Church southwest of Trenton. Burial will be in Shelburne Cemetery.

Family visitation will be Monday from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Slater-Neal Funeral Home, Trenton.

Memorials to Shelburne Baptist Church and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.

Mr. Lanning was born September 21, 1931 at Rutland, Iowa the son of Harry Ray and Blanche Valentine  NaugleLanning. He was a Korean veteran serving in the U.S. Army. While serving in the service he was a truck driver with the rank of Corporal. He was employed by Modine Manufacturing for several years retiring on September 21, 1996. He was on the Honor flight to Washington, D.C. in 2017.

He was a member of the Shelburne Baptist Church and American Legion Post No. 31 of Trenton.

On March 21,1956 he was married at Swea City, Iowa to Carolyn Ann Durbin. 

His survivors include his wife Carolyn of the home. Five sons Gary Lanning and wife Arlene, Ridgeway, Missouri, Darrel Lanning, Kansas City, Missouri, David Lanning and wife Leianne, Vilonia, Arkansas, Larry Lanning, Kansas City, Missouri and Curtis Lanning and wife Lisa, Chillicothe, Missouri. Seven grandchildren Heidi Lanning, Crystal Lanning, Joshua Lannning, Stephanie Bonecutter, Mark Lanning, Ashley Smith, and Johnathon Lanning. Four great grandchildren Sophia Lanning, Jasmine Bonecutter, Lilly Lanning, and Rayna Lanning. Two cousins Phyllis Link, Swea City, Iowa and Bill Geiss, Fairmont, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, his uncle and aunt Bill and Ruth Geiss who raised him.
