Mrs. Debbie K. Mooney, 69, a resident of Sabetha, Kansas and former Trenton, Missouri resident died Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation, Hiawatha, Kansas with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton, Missouri. Her body will be cremated after the service.
Family visitation will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the mortuary.
Memorials to Trenton Band Boosters and may be left with the mortuary.
Mrs. Mooney was born October 19, 1955, in Killeen, Texas the daughter of Ralph and Frances “Wilberta” (Royston) Ferguson. With her father in the military, her childhood was spent in many interesting locations including Paris, Fance, Clark Air Force Base, Philippines, Ankara, Turkey and West Berlin, East Germany, before settling in Trenton, where she graduated from Trenton High School in 1974. She then attended Trenton Junior College earning a Secretary Certificate in 1975 and later a Graduate degree from William Woods University. She worked at Grundy Electric Cooperative as the Account and Safety Director and retired in 2010 after more than 34 years with the company.
Debbie was actively involved with her children’s youth activities, including sports, band, and scouts. She also participated in and supported several community organizations including Beta Sigma Phi, Business Professional Women, Trenton Beauty Pageant, Trenton Band Boosters, and Celebrate Recovery.
On November 11, 2011, she was married to Floyd “Sonny” Mooney. In the years following, she worked as the accountant at their business, Floyds Truck Repair and Road Services, located in Sabetha.
Debbie cherished spending time with friends and family, especially with her grandchildren, attending their numerous activities and sporting events whenever possible. She and Floyd also took pleasure in traveling, embarking on many road trips across the country.
Her survivors include her husband Floyd “Sonny” of the home, two sons Nathan Vandevender and wife Kristen, Trenton, Missouri, Paul Vandevender and wife Amanda, Trenton, Missouri; one brother Ralph D. Ferguson, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; six grandchildren Korbin Vandevender, Cayson Harper, Jayden McClure, Ian Vandevender, Dru Vandevender, and Zoe Vandevender.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
