Chauncey Laverne Gilliland

Mr. Chauncey Laverne “Vern” Gilliland 81, a resident of Trenton, Missouri died at 5:45 P.M. Monday, December 20, 2021 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia, Missouri.

His body was cremated under the direction of Slater-Neal Funeral Home, Trenton, Missouri.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Gilliland was born November 12, 1940 at Sigourney, Iowa the son of Chauncey Otto and Rena Gilliland. He graduated from Sigourney, Iowa High School. Vern was the owner of New Beginnings Embryo Transfer until it closed. He had been a meat cutter for 50 years. Before retiring he owned and operated Vern’s Meat Shop in rural Trenton until 2020. He was an accomplished horseman and loved helping people with their horses.  He also loved being with people and helping anyone he could.

On November 20, 2010 he was married to Jeanette H. Schmitz at Trenton, Missouri.

His survivors include his wife Jeanette of the home. Two daughters Elania Parman and husband John of Missouri, Cheyenne Goodwin and husband Charles of Missouri; two sons Matthew McKahan and wife Julie of Oklahoma, David McKahan of California; four grandchildren Ashlee Parman, Aimee Parman, Natalie McKahan, Henry McKahan; and by two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.   He was a blessing to all and will be greatly missed.
