Bertha (Beth) Ann Smith, 79, passed away Sunday September 26, 2021 surrounded by family,
in her home in Lathrop, Missouri, under hospice care.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Galt Christian Church. Burial will be in Humphreys Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Slater-Neal Funeral Home, Trenton, Missouri
Memorials to the Humphreys Cemetery and they may be left with the funeral home.
Beth was born October 9, 1941 in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of Kermit “Jack” and Gladys M
(Murray) Williams. She attended, and graduated from Pattonville High School while living in St.
Louis, MO, at the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. Beth worked and retired from (Stampers,
Banquet) ConAgra, in Milan, MO, after 35 years of service.
Beth met Murl Gary Smith, while walking down the road one afternoon in Humphreys, MO. It
was love at first sight and they were married on September 3, 1961 at Mt. Zion Christian
Church, south of Humphreys.
Beth is survived by a son, Jeffrey J., wife Sarah Smith of Lathrop, MO, a daughter, Gina M.,
husband George Rupp of Chillicothe, MO. Grandchildren, Codi and Kira Smith, of Kearney, MO,
Colton and Robin Smith of Lathrop, MO, Aspen Smith of Lathrop, MO, Robert, Alexander,
Morgan and Emma Grace Rupp of Chillicothe, MO. Great-grandchildren Noah, Gabby, Deklen
Smith and Alexis O’Brien of Kearney, MO. Sisters, Bonnie (Rayko) Zlateff of Prairie Village, KS,
Betty (John) Harmon of Atlantic, IA, Barbara Williams of Gilman, IA, and sister-in-law Wanda
Williams of Cameron, MO. Brothers Johnny (Judy) Williams of Newton, IA, Jack (Laura)
Williams of Kingsland, GA, Jerry (Karen) Williams of Bloomington, IL and Ronnie (Nancy) Williams of
Trenton, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a stillborn child Gary Don, infant grandson Eric John
Smith, brothers William “Bill” Williams, Donald “Donnie” Williams and (infant brother)James
Williams. Sisters Roberta “Bobbi” (Williams) Stafford, Rebecca “Becky” Williams, Beverly
(Williams) Leach, sister-in-law Rose Williams and (infant sister) Jane Williams.
She was quite the prankster and had a sense of humor that rivaled any comedienne! She loved
her family fiercely and was happiest being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She
loved reading her bible, doing crosswords, watching Food Network and trying new recipes. Beth
will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
